Martin W Cortell \"Wayne\", Jr., age 82 of Pittsburgh, PA, died Wednesday, June 01, 2012, at his home. He was born on Wednesday, January 07, 1931, in Streator, IL, the son Rev. Floyd L. and Ada M. (nee Dawson) Cortell. On Saturday, April 14, 1956, he married Eunice D. Cortell (nee Kaltenbacher) who survives . He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, (Past Consistory President, Former Choir member); Highland Rotary Club (member since 1986; past president 1992-1993 & 1998-1999, Paul Harris Fellow); Highland Area Community Foundation (Sterring Committee, 1st President/Director Emeritus 1999 (1994-Present); Faith Countryside Homes (Executive Director/Board member); Highland Chamber of Commerce (volunteer, Homer Poss Lifetime Achievement); Saint Joseph Hospital Advisory Board; Highland Historical Society; Meals on Wheels volunteer; VFW Post 5694-Life Member. Born at Boulder, CO; 1948 graduate of McCray-Dewey High School, Troy, IL; worked at Troy Security Bank, Troy, IL, for 2 years; joined the US Navy, 4 years of active combat duty during the Korean War. In 1954 began working for Civil Service at Scott Air Force Base; in 1964 transferred to St. Louis Army Electronics Command and retired in 1986. He enjoyed travelling, fishing, hunting, building bird houses and following the Crazy Horse Memorial sculpture in South Dakota. He and his wife moved to Highland, IL, in 1956. He and his brothers and good friend Joe Ottwein sang as a barbershop quartet; he also sang at church, weddings and funerals. Survivors include: Wife - Eunice D. Cortell nee Kaltenbacher, Daughter - Elizabeth W Cortell Pittsburgh, PA Brother - Robert J. (Diana) Cortell, Troy, IL Brother - Richard D. (Jean) Cortell, Glen Carbon, IL Sister In-law - Dorothy Knabel, Highland, IL Nephew - Ron (Jo Ellen) Knabel, Greeneville, TN Niece - Patricia (Mike) Maroon, Highland, IL Niece - Judy (\"Butch\") Kuhn, Trenton, IL Niece - Barb (Ken) Randle, Alhambra, IL Nephew - Richard (Karen) Rogier, Jr., Lakeland, FL Niece - Rene (Kent) Robinette, Edwardsville, IL Niece - Rhonda (Norman) Fohne, Troy, IL Nephew - Michael (Dynette) Rogier, Glen Carbon, IL Niece - Jennifer (Tom) King, Saint Jacob, IL Great Nieces & Nephews - Numerous Great Great Nieces & Nephews - Numerous. He was preceded in death by: Father - Rev. Floyd L. Rogier, Sr. Mother - Ada M. Rogier (nee Dawson). Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Coulder, CO.
