Sophie Theresa Masters, 95, of Los Angeles, passed away July 9, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.
Sophie was born in Los Angeles’ Little Italy district to Filipo and Ana Renna on September 22, 1917 and attended Belmont High School where she was captain of the Girls Basketball Team and President of the Toppers Girl’s Club. Sophie married in 1945 to her beloved Clarence M. Masters, a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during WWII.
She worked for 50 years as a Pharmacist Technician for Cal Med (Rosemont) Drug Store where she was a beloved fixture in the community. She retired at 85 and then went to work for St. Peters Italian Catholic Church where she was also a bright spot to the parishioners. In addition, Sophie was a member of Canneto Colony of Saints and St. Anthony Society.
Sophie was the last member of the Renna family and is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers John and Joe, and five sisters Nicolina, Theresa, Rose, Ana and Fellie. Sophie lost her husband Clarence in October 1949 and never remarried.
Sophie is survived by her loving sons Richard and Robert, grandsons Mark and Brian, granddaughter Desiree, great-granddaughter Jordan, and many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Sophie’s Fund” care of The Canneto Colony of Saints and mailed to Mr. Paul Crispi, 839 Graynold, Glendale, CA 91202. Proceeds will benefit St. Peters Italian Church.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15th, at Cabot & Sons Funeral Home located at 27 Chestnut St., Pasadena, CA 91103, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Saying of the Rosary will be at 7:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 16th at St. Peters Italian Catholic Church 1039 N. Broadway, Los Angeles 90012, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 4201 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles 90023.

Our mother, Sophie passed from this earth yesterday, July 9th at 11:00 am, while a patient at St. Vincent\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Hospital in Los Angeles. She had been fighting pneumonia and other injuries for several weeks. She was in control of her mind up to the end and some of her last words were to send her love to all her family and friends who loved her.
MONDAY, JULY 15TH - VISITATION
There will be a Visitation from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and the Saying of the Rosary at 7:00 pm on Monday night at Cabot & Sons Funeral Home, located at 27 Chestnut St., Pasadena, CA 91103. The phone there is 626-793-7159.
TUESDAY, JULY 16TH - FUNERAL
On Tuesday, July 16th, at 11:00 am there will be a memorial Mass at St. Peters Italian Catholic Church, located at 1039 N. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Following the Mass, there will be a procession with motorcycle escort, to accompany our mother to Calvary Cemetery, 4201 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles 90023. Following a grave-side ceremony, our mother will be laid to rest beside our father and reunited for eternity.
FOOD AND REFRESHMENT
Following the Mass, food and refreshments will be served at Casa Italiana for all of our family and friends. Food will be served to those who do not travel to the Cemetery and those returning from the Grave-side Service.

In lieu of flowers or other memorials, we are asking that those who wish to honor our mother, donate to \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Sophie\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Fund\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" which will go toward building a memorial comfort room inside St. Peters Church in honor of our mother.
