Person Description:
Karlyn Thayer of Cheraw, CO, passed away at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta at age 66. She was born in Oceanside, CA to Carl and Ellen Wiedeman. Karlyn graduated from Alameda High School in 1964, attended college at both Parsons College in Fairfield, IA and Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO where she obtained a degree in English. Karlyn worked at La Junta Printing for many years. She instructed writers and was an accomplished wordsmith. Karlyn also was a Toastmaster for many years with the Out to Lunch Bunch.
Karlyn is survived by her husband Robert Newsom of Cheraw, mother Ellen Wiedeman of Denver, aunt Margaret Magill of Lakewood, CO, uncle Ron Roberts and wife Kitty of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, stepsons Travis Thayer of Oakland, CA and Tyler Thayer of Colorado Springs, CO, brother Doug Wiedeman and his partner Erick Blakely, niece Erica MacDonald and husband Mike, cousins Jim Magill, Kathy Roberts, Ann Roberts. She was preceded in death by her father Carl, husband Keith Thayer, aunts Ruth Keraus and Janice Roberts, uncle Robert Magill, cousins Sue Magill and Andy Roberts.
Karlyn had a passion for reading, writing and an undying love of animals, especially horses. She had been a member of the Westernairs, then raised and raced quarter horses in the past years. Services will be held at the Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home in La Junta, Colorado Jan 18th, 2013 1:00pm.
